Who are you?

It has been a while since I last posted, and although I considered seriously to shut down this blog due to the lack of time (or audience) I think is important to keep it, just as a form of journal or diary sort of speak. If any of you guys find it helpful, please let me know! I'll be more than happy to keep this up even more so!

Here is the process of one of my latest jobs, It is an illustration based on a fragment of Alice in Wonderland.

Digital rough. I throw lines on photoshop just to get the general idea of the composition.

I start tightening up lines, first with the foliage and the caterpillar.

Then with the mushrooms and the smoke.

At last with Alice and I made some changes to the caterpillar's face, to be more dramatic and creepy.

Last step, I print the roughs on bristol and ink over them.

Dinosaurs in NY

This assignment was a double spread for narrative art II, where we had to chose between either dinosaurs and aliens. I obviously picked up the dinosaurs in N.Y. because I have never draw them before. I also thought it was a good opportunity to throw in a shout out for some of my friends books back in Monterrey. (which if you don't know, is my hometown, and a very awesome kick ass city).

Death of a Superhero

 Death of a superhero assignment for Narrative art. This was actually my final assignment for Adam Kubert's class. In this assignment we had to show the death of a superhero without actually showing the super hero.

How to become a comic book artist with Fernando Ruiz

I know I have not posted anything in a while, but I promise I have tons of cools stuff to post, if I can only make some time to do it. School is pretty tight now and there are some extra curricular projects that also take most of my time.

In the mean time I leave you guys an interview done by Bleeding Cool, to one of my teachers at The Kubert School: Fernando Ruiz. He is a really really good teacher and I have learned a lot from him.

Mariachi Vs. Afro

This is a very special piece to me, because I give all of my heart and effort to make it look as best as I could. It started as a homework assignment for Layout class, and it became one of the coolest works I have ever had the pleasure to do.

The assignment's objective was to design a poster using symmetry. I chose mirror symmetry because it better suited the purpose and resources for this particular job.


It is no secret that I love ninjas and samurais and everything japan related. So I figured this would be the perfect opportunity to make a tribute to two awesome representatives of this subject matter.

Mariachi Samurai is an amazing graphic novel I just recently discovered during this past NY ComiCon, and I just love Afro Samurai ever since I watched that Resurrection movie.
